Ethics Discussion Group at 3901 Market St.

The Ethics Group had three to four participants. All are civic-minded.  Participants were vocal, opinionated and embraced the topic.

What does this goal mean to you?

• Responsibility: Workers should be accountable for what they do or don’t do.

• A job well done.

• Take pride in what we do.

• How I, the citizen, am responsible for what I do:  If you see something wrong, report it. Both citizens and city workers should be responsible and report wrong

Performance measures (What success would look like)

• Less crime

• Workers become more efficient at their jobs.

• Less trash in the streets.

• Parents and civic leaders being more active

• Better communications from the city to citizens and from citizens to city government.

• Respect from city workers toward citizens:

            → Workers need training, workshops, in how to exhibit respect toward citizens.

            → Respect towards citizens starts at the top of city government.

• City governmental departments should be clearly defined as to what they do, their functions and jobs.

            → Publicize; tell the public what departments do.

            → Use the “blue pages,” from the telephone book, as an example or guide as to how to list city departments and their functions.

• A fully functional 311 system should be used.

Customer-service standards

• Fast, courteous and responsive service.

• When citizens call city government, city workers should be knowledgeable in their jobs and know where to direct your call if they don’t know the answer to the question. City workers shouldn’t put citizens on telephone “hold” … find the answer to the question.
